UPDATE: Authorities in western Wisconsin have identified two family members who died in a mobile home fire.

Thirty-year-old Douglas Shawley and 2-year-old Genevieve Shawley died when fire swept their home in the Buffalo County community of Buffalo City on Tuesday.

A Buffalo County sheriff’s deputy arrived within minutes of the fire call and found the back half of the mobile home engulfed in flames. The deputy reported a small explosion that could have been a propane tank.

Deputies evacuated surrounding homes until the fire department arrived.

BUFFALO CITY, Wis. (AP) — Two people are dead after a mobile home fire in western Wisconsin.

The fire broke out about 5 a.m. Tuesday in Buffalo City. A Buffalo County sheriff’s deputy arrived within minutes of the call and found the back half of the mobile home engulfed in flames.

The deputy reported a small explosion that could have been a propane tank. Deputies evacuated surrounding homes until the fire department arrived.

Fire crews learned that two family members were not accounted for. WKOW-TV reports they were later found dead. The victims’ names have not been released.

Buffalo City is a small community of about 1,000 people located on the banks of the Mississippi River, about 50 miles southwest of Eau Claire.

Authorities don’t know what caused the fire.
