WAUSAU, Wis – If you’re still looking for holiday gifts this season, you might want to keep an eye out for a little red logo: Something Special From Wisconsin.
Since 1983, Something Special from Wisconsin has offered consumers worldwide a brand identity that represents top quality and high value. Whether program members are marketing locally, regionally, nationally or internationally, the distinctive logo brings recognition and credibility, building upon Wisconsin’s reputation for providing the finest products and services available.
Put simply, Wisconsin’s Alice in Dairyland Crystal Siemers-Peterman says that little logo lets you know that the product you’re buying is made right here in the Badger State.
“There’s almost 500 companies represented, and when you see the red label, you’ll know that at least 50% of all products, packaging or ingredients are from our state,” Siemers-Peterman said.
The program is now in its 34th year, and really helps to showcase Wisconsin’s agriculture and heritage in creating fine food and products, Siemers-Peterman said. “That’s one of Wisconsin’s greatest strengths, is Wisconsin’s agriculture.”
The wide variety of products that come with the label can find a place in anyone’s holiday gift giving.
During her tour of central Wisconsin, Siemers-Peterson brought with her some specialty products like handmade wine from the Vetro Winery in Jefferson made with Wisconsin grapes. “It’s a cold varietal and those grapes are unique to Wisconsin.”
If you are still looking for a dip to put into your spread of veggies and nibblets, CJ’s Spices from Oconomowoc has some specialty dill and french onion dip mixes for your family.
“They use USDA organic spices, lots of great flavors and easy to make,” Siemers-Peterson noted.
And of course, there’s plenty of Wisconsin cheeses on the list.
“There’s over 600 varieties, types and styles of cheese in Wisconsin, and there’s something for everyone,” Siemers-Peterson said.
One delicious example: specialty Gouda cheese made by Holland’s Family Cheese in Thorpe, and it’s made from scratch starting with raw milk. “This Gouda has won lots of awards, and it’s handcrafted in small batches in a traditional Dutch style.”
