WAUSAU — In hockey action Friday, the fifth place Wausau RiverWolves topped the third place Wisconsin Whalers in overtime by a 5-4 score.

The Whalers are from Oregon, Wisconsin.

Chicago native Ron Rentner got the scoring started for the RiverWolves at the 2:31 mark of the first period. Wausau then added three goals to the score sheet in the second. Two of those goals came from Connor Moore, while Rentner scored the third. Matt Irwin scored the winning goal just 15 seconds into overtime, making his 13th goal of the season.

Henry Baribeau picked up the win for the RiverWolves stopping 57 shots.

The Wausau RiverWolves next set of games will be held at the Schwan Super Rink for the NA3HL Showcase. The RiveerWolves play Dec. 17 against the Louisiana Drillers, Dec. 18 against the Southern Tier Express and Dec. 19 against the Toledo Cherokee.

The next Marathon Park game will be on Dec. 29 vs. the Peoria Mustangs. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
