WAUSAU — Police are searching for an inmate who walked away from the Marathon County Jail this week.

Sierra Thoms, 20, was convicted in March on charges of misappropriation of identification and was sentenced to two years probation. In November, Thoms’ probation was revoked, and on Dec. 5, she was sentenced to one year in jail with work release.

Police say Thoms served 18 days of her sentence before she was released on Huber and failed to return. She was set to return at 8 p.m. Thursday, but never showed, according to a Marathon County Sheriff’s Department Facebook post.

Thoms has contacts in the Vilas County area and previously lived in Lac du Flambeau. Police believe she may have returned to that area. She is not considered a danger to the public.

Anyone able to provide information on Thoms whereabouts should call the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office at 715-261-1200, then choose option 1.
