MERRILL — A 23-year-old man is facing drug trafficking charges after police seized thousands of dollars in cash and heroin from a Merrill home.

Jason Sly appeared Wednesday in Lincoln County Circuit Court, where Circuit Judge Jay Tlusty ordered him held on a $50,000 cash bond. The charges are the result of an ongoing joint investigation between drug officers with the Merrill Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

According to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department news release, officers searched the home on Dec. 26, where they discovered more than $3,000 in cash along with three ounces of heroin. The drugs, typically sold by the gram, have a street value of about $28,000, police said.

Sly faces charges of possession of heroin with intent to deliver, maintaining a drug trafficking place and possession of drug paraphernalia. If he is convicted on all charges, he faces up to 43 1/2 years in prison and more than $100,000 in fines.

A scheduling conference is set for Jan. 16.
