The Newman Catholic boys basketball team notched a big win on Friday, cruising past Marion by a score of 84-38.

Newman Head Coach Dan Garrett said the game was a huge confidence booster for the young team.

“Ben Bates and Ben Leischer had big games for us with 24 and 20 points respectively,” Garrett said. “Each of them have had a tough time shooting lately so it was great to see them get going tonight, but Kasey Kalafice really set the tone for us off the bench today defensively.”

Kalifice not only created turnovers, but scored 10 points in the win for the Cardinals. Freshman Charlie McCarty was also a big contributor, with 9 rebounds and 13 points.

“This was a great team win with everyone scoring tonight and I’m really proud of our team,” Garrett said.

Newman takes on Abbotsford next, on Jan. 5.
