WAUSAU — The new east side outdoor ice rink now has lights and a heated warming house, according to city council member Pat Peckham.

Access to the Thom Field rink is on the 1500 block of 13th Street, north of Stark Street. The rink was poured in December.

The warming house is open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Thom Field rink is one of three outdoor ice rinks open this season. Marathon Park, 1201 Stewart Ave. has a recreation rink and a hockey rink with boards, with a warming house and lights. There is also a rink, warming house, and lights at The 400 Block in downtown Wausau.

Lights at rinks are on timers, according to the city of Wausau outdoor ice rink information page. When the combined air and wind temperature fall to -20 degrees or colder, the rinks will close.
