WAUSAU — Thanks in part to a crucial hat trick by Matt Irwin, the Wausau RiverWolves cruised past the Breezy Point North Stars Saturday night at Marathon Park by a score of 6 to 4.

The game was the second in the two-game weekend series, with Breezy Point taking game one by a score of 7-2.

Irwin kicked off scoring for the RiverWolves at the 17:35 mark of the first period. Next scoring in the second period was Connor Moore, just 31 seconds into the period. Three more goals were netted in the second period, coming from Irwin, Jacob Rudloff, and Owen Routheut.

Irwin was able to complete his hat-trick on an empty net goal at the 19:44 mark of the third period to close out the game.

Starting in net for the Wausau RiverWolves was Hudson, Wisconsin native Henry Baribeau who stopped 52 shots for his fourth win on the season.

The Wausau RiverWolves will be back in action at home on Wednesday, January 17 for a 7 p.m. puck drop against the Rochester Ice Hawks.
