NEWS RELEASE — The Wausau School District’s Engineering and Global Leadership Academy (EGL) will host an open house for prospective students (eighth graders and high school students), parents and the general public on Thursday, January 18 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the school.
The Wausau Engineering and Global Leadership Academy is a free public charter school that offers project-based learning to any Central Wisconsin high school students with special interests in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Wausau EGL is located at 2607 N 18th Street with its own entrance and parking on the east side of East High School, door E2. At the Open House, Wausau EGL students will be showcasing their global and STEM projects. Global projects required students to research a country, identify a problem in the country and then create a solution. Students presenting STEM projects will demonstrate science, technology, engineering applications and explain the academics behind their projects.
Students within the Wausau School District and outside the district can enroll in the Wausau Engineering and Global Leadership Academy by completing an application before April 30. A presentation for prospective students and parents will take place at the school, Tuesday, January 16 at 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, January 25 at 5:00 p.m.
Newsweek magazine ranked the Wausau EGL Academy the number one high school in Wisconsin and number 34 in the U.S. in 2014. The school opened in 2010 and currently serves 58 students in grades 9-12. Last November, Wausau’s EGL Academy “exceeded expectations” with an overall score of 81 out of 100 possible points on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s report card that rates Wisconsin high schools.
