MEDFORD — A 31-year-old man who threatened to shoot officers during an hours-long standoff in Medford is in custody, police confirmed Thursday.

Jake Wendt, 31, is being held in the Taylor County Jail. Online court records show Wendt has a Wausau address. No charges have yet been filed in connection with the standoff.

Police were called at about 5 p.m. for a report of a man with a gun inside a Medford home with two women and a 7-year-old child inside. Officers arriving at the home heard gunfire inside and warned neighbors and residents to stay indoors.

Police say Wendt threatened to shoot officers if they approached the home, but eventually surrendered. Investigators say there were actually no women or children inside the home and no one was injured.
