TOWN OF WALDWICK — Mervin Martie, 78, died in a house fire early Sunday that also completely destroyed the home, according to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports that the home’s other owner and occupant, Fredricka A. Martie, 76, was not home when the blaze broke out. The fire was reported about 7 a.m. Sunday on County Line Road, the newspaper reported.
Waldwick is a small town of about 500 residents located 51 miles southwest of Madison.
The house was engulfed in flames when emergency units including the Mineral Point Fire Department arrived, police said. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
