UPDATE (Monday, 8:20 a.m.) — Officials have released the name of a Little Chute man killed early Saturday in a snowmobile crash near Conover.
Gary Van De Leygraaf, 55, died after he crashed his sled into a tree just before 2 a.m. Saturday at the shoreline of Buckatabon Lake, according to the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
CONOVER — One person is dead after a snowmobile crash early Saturday near Conover, according to the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department.
Police received a 911 call at about 1:42 a.m. reporting a snowmobile driver crashed into a tree on the shoreline of Buckatobon Lake, near Bauer’s Dam Resort.
The driver, whose name and age have not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police suspect speed was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
