UPDATE (Monday, 8:13 a.m.) — Police have released the names of two people involved in a fatal crash Saturday west of Rhinelander.

James Reichelt, 31, of Irma was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a Department of Transportation news release, Reichelt was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the eastbound car, 87-year-old Lila Cirilli from Rhinelander, was taken to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the crash.

ONEIDA COUNTY — One person is dead and an elderly woman is hospitalized after a crash Saturday just outside of Rhinelander, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

According to a news release, the crash happened Saturday night on Hwy. 8 near CTH N. An initial investigation shows a 31-year-old Irma man was driving westbound in a 2001 Saturn when he drove onto the north shoulder of the road, over corrected and slid into the path of an eastbound 2010 Honda CRV.

The Irma man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the CRV, an 87-year-old Rhinelander woman, was injured and was taken to an area hospital. Police say her injuries do not appear life-threatening.

Names have not yet been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
