MOSINEE, Wis. – Officials are warning residents to stay safe on the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir as the lake’s aeration equipment has been activated for the winter.
The Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Valley Improvement Company made that announcement on Wednesday. That device slowly weakens and opens up a stretch of water near the Big Eau Pleine County Park to help improve oxygenation levels inside the lake.
That also means some danger to fishermen, snowmobilers and and others that travel out on the ice.
Rope barriers are being installed around the affected area, and warnings have been put into place at all boat landings on the lake to keep people away from the open water and weak ice.
