John Prange
A life well lived was ended with the death of John Prange, 84, on February 19, 2018 surrounded by his wife and children. His loss will be felt by all who knew and were touched by his caring nature and love of life.
John was born in Sheboygan, WI to Milford and Ella (Jurss) Prange in 1933. The family moved to Sturgeon Bay, WI in 1935. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School and attended Lawrence University.
After graduating from college in 1956, he entered the Air Force. A lifelong dream was fulfilled when he graduated from flight school. After leaving the service as a First Lieutenant in 1959, he began his career in retail at Dayton’s Department store in Minneapolis, MN. In 1963 he returned to Wisconsin to join the H.C. Prange Co. where he was a Vice President and Store Manager in several communities until 1992. In addition, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of First Wisconsin of Wausau.
John was committed to the betterment of his community and left a legacy of civic leadership and volunteerism. He was a member of the Wausau Area Chamber of Commerce from 1974 to 1981 and served as President from 1979 to 1980. He was a board member and President of Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and the Family Counseling Services Board. As a United Way volunteer, he was a Division Co-Chairman and Loaned Executive. He diligently promoted the development of the Wausau Center and as President of the Marathon County Civic Corporation, he worked tirelessly with local and state representatives to ensure the ongoing existence of a ski area at Rib Mountain State Park.
John loved to ski. He was part of the Sturgeon Bay ski team. They were the first Sturgeon Bay team ever to go to state. Not only did they go, they won!!! Later in life he was a medalist in the Badger State Games. If you ski, you may celebrate his life by skiing down the run named in his honor, Prange’s Glade at Granite Peak. He was an avid sailor, always challenging the waves of Lake Michigan. He also relished his time as a pilot, remaining fascinated with aeronautics throughout his life. What he cherished the most was the time spent at his family cabin in Door County with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Anne Prange; one daughter, Mary Lou (Jim) Prange-Jones, and two sons John Prange and former spouse Karin Klarer, and Robert (Heidi) Prange; also four grandchildren; Will, Neil, Jackson and Hannah Prange and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his sister, Pam Peterson and his brother, Phil Prange.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, at Brainard Funeral Home – Wausau Chapel, 522 Adams Street. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Robert “Bob” Ringle
Robert H. “Bob” Ringle, 84, Wausau died Sunday, February 18, 2018 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Garden Side Crossing, Mount View Care Center, Wausau.
He was born February 23, 1933 in Wausau, son of the late Elmer and Alma (Winkert) Ringle Sr. On April 7, 1956 he married Patricia Kort at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. She survives.
Bob retired from the Marathon County Highway Department as a mechanic in 1993.
He served as a Supervisor for the Town of Rib Falls for 22 years and also was active at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, serving as a trustee and usher.
After retirement Bob did woodworking, making many pieces of furniture for his family and a decorative wall hanging clock for all his nieces, nephews and friends. Some of Bob’s favorite enjoyments was being able to watch his children’s and grandchildren’s school activities.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1956. He was a proud member of the American Legion Alois Dreikosen Post #469, Marathon and the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #64.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ringle, Rothschild, daughter, Shelley-Rae (Adrian) Pehler, Eau Claire, son, Guy (Debra) Ringle, Brussels, grandsons, Eric (Meredith) Pehler, Alex (Krystal Porter) Pehler and Robert D. Ringle and one granddaughter, Ellen Ringle and one great grandson, Everett Pehler and two sisters-in-law, Delores Ringle, Ozark, MO and Gisela Ringle, Weston.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Kaye Ringle, brothers, Elmer Jr. and Kenneth Ringle, sisters, Frieda Werner, Bess Foster and Delores Harder and his brothers-in-law, Ervin Werner, Darwin Foster and Hilbert Harder.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Edgar. The Rev. Gail Sowell will officiate. Burial will be in the Edgar Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the American Legion, Post #469 of Marathon. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Robert’s name. Paulina Ann Dobrowski Fellbaum
Our greatest loss, our Mother, Paulina Ann (Grabko) Dombrowski Fellbaum, 84, of Wausau/ Marathon entered Heaven Tuesday, February 20, 2018 with family rushing to be by her side due to a cardiac arrest.
She was born September 16, 1933, in Hatley, daughter of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Kuklinski) Grabko. Paulina grew up during the Great Depression. She was the oldest daughter of a family of eight, four brothers and three sisters. She and her seven siblings walked daily to a one room school in the town of Reed. All they knew was the Polish language but when used at school they were punished. Paulina went to school until the age of 16 and started her first job at Marathon Electric.
On August 13, 1955 she married Albert Peter Dombrowski at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. They were blessed with four children. Life was busy for them when suddenly Albert’s life ended short on May 18, 1962. As life would have it, six years later Paulina found love again and on September 28, 1968 she married Vernon Rudolf Fellbaum at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. They farmed, traveled, and enjoyed life up until Vernon passed on March 6, 1996 due to cancer.
After Pauline left the farm she enjoyed a part time job at Schlotzky’s Deli where she baked. She loved to can, with her Kerr Jars and a day of canning was like a holiday to her. She loved to highlight how many quarts she could do in one day. Pauline also loved to reminisce about the events that happened on the birthday of her children, including weather conditions and the number of hours of labor. Randy was a morning delivery and was quick. Renee in turn was many hours of labor. Suzie was easier than expected and resulted in her giving birth to Randy, 11 months later.
Paulina was the family’s laundry mat and could get any stain out. She had her own remedies which included boat cleaner. She also loved polka music, fishing, and Hodag. She enjoyed riding in her late husband, Albert’s 1924 Model T and most of all she loved her children and grandchildren. Paulina loved taking care of all the babies in the family, her greatest passion was doing for others. There is a loss for words all the good things our mother has done in her lifetime but one thing is for sure Paulina was truly and amazing and special woman. All of our lives will never be the same. Her big heart was priceless.
Survivors include her four children, Suzanne (Gary) Burmeister, Marathon, Randy (Jeanene) Dombrowski, Alpharetta, Georgia and Renee (Robert) Burmeister, Marathon; six grandchildren, Albert (Cheryl) Burmeister, Wisconsin Rapids, Lynette (fiancé Jeremy Bryant) Burmeister, Edgar, Lee (Gina) Burmeister, Wausau, Jordan Dombrowski, Alpharetta, Georgia, Sarah (Ehren) Malinowski, Wausau and Derek Burmeister, Minnetonka, Minnesota; seven great-grandchildren, Maculey, Alexandria, Seth, Miranda, Aliyah, Audrey and Madisyn; siblings, Anton (Rosemary) Grabko, Hatley, Clarence (Frances) Grabko, Hatley, Irene Loberg, Menominee Falls, Violet Woodell, Raleigh, North Carolina, Joseph (Lorna) Grabko, Hatley and Verna (Robert) Knishka, Kronenwetter; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Chesterine (John) Brzezenski, Stevens Point, Karen Dombrowski, Amherst, Romona Ulrich, Wausau, Arden (Arlene) Fellbaum, Hamburg, Ardell Salzwedel, Wausau, Aryle (Carl) Schmidt, Wausau, Darlene Osness, Wausau, Lorna (Joe) Grabko, Hatley and Sharon Schultz, Wausau and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Bruce Burmeister, brother, Ray (Evelyn) Grabko, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Caroline Litza, Evelyn Dombrowski Hubert Dombrowski, Marcella Beckman, Beverly Fellbaum, Dennis Fellbaum and Donald Fellbaum.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. Rev. Augustine Bentil will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, Bevent. Visitation will be Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.

John Szemborski
After a 4-year battle with esophageal cancer, John J. Szemborski, Jr., 80, of Marathon, WI, died at his home, on February 19, 2018.
John is best known in recent years as the “Honey Guy” at the Farmers Market of Wausau, where he was a vendor for over 25 years and one of the first vendors of organic produce. Friends and family could always count on enjoying polka on the radio when they would visit John.
Earlier in his life, he was a dairy farmer and ran a small saw mill, cutting laths for area ginseng growers. He was born in the family farmhouse in rural Marathon on July 14, 1937 to John and Isabelle (Hilber) Szemborski, Sr. In February of 1960, John married Marguerite Abt (Thanig); they divorced in 1973.
John is survived by his children, Greg (Dora) Szemborski, Edgar; Doug Szemborski, Marshfield; Brenda (Mike) Roma, Schofield; Chris Szemborski, Marathon (Little Chicago); Jocelyn (Mark) Fochs, Mosinee; Virginia (John) Prosser, Weston; and Ben (Tina) Szemborski, Marathon; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Elmira (Gerhardt) Paul, Sheboygan Falls; and Carol Bothe, Waukesha.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Florence (Edward) Soczka, Bernice (Paul) Mueller, Anthony (Esther) Szemborski, Irene (Leo) Mroczenski, and Martin (Rosie) Szemborski.

Thomas Treu
Thomas John Treu, 92, of Wausau, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
He was born on September 7, 1925 in Schofield, WI, the son of Herman and Mary (Horak) Treu. Thomas married Beulah Mae “Geri” Ristow on September 26, 1949 in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Thomas served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was active in the Wausau VFW Post. After retiring from J.I. Case in 1983, he enjoyed restoring antique cars and was active in the Wausau Antique Auto Club for several years. He also loved playing with his grandchildren, helping Geri make costumes, and playing his accordion while entertaining with Geri at local nursing homes. They also enjoyed dancing, traveling, and gardening together.
Survivors include his bride of 68 years, Beulah Mae “Geri” Treu of Wausau; three children, Steven John (Linda) Treu of Fort Worth, TX, Barry Wayne Treu of Freeport, IL, and Deborah Lynn Treu of Madison, WI; grandchildren, Jarret (Jennifer) Treu, Shana Lynn (Jeff) Renz, and Priyaa Treu; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Landon, and Natalie.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Restlawn Memorial Chapel, 4710 North Troy St., Wausau, with Rev. Joy Nelson-Jeffers of First Presbyterian Church of Wausau officiating. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the chapel. Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, town of Texas, with military honors provided by V.F.W. Burns Post #388.

Fayette VanRyn
Fayette Joy (Felten) Van Ryn slept into her Savior’s arms and eternal rest just after midnight, Sunday, February 18, 2018, after an eighteen-month struggle with bone cancer. She was born on December 18, 1937, to Carl and Frieda (Heuss) Felten in Schofield, Wisconsin.
Fayette graduated from D. C. Everest High School, class of 1955. She studied accounting for one year at the UW Extension (now UWMC) in Wausau, then worked full time in the payroll department at the Marathon Corporation (now Domtar) before marrying William (Bill) Van Ryn, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, on August 29, 1959, and moved to Grand Rapids. In 1965 Fayette and Bill, with their three children, moved to Puerto Rico as missionaries, where their fourth son was born, continuing there in ministry until 1975. They then moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, continuing in missionary activity with Hispanics locally as well as in travels to several Central or South American countries.
After her sons were grown Fayette worked as a CNA in Florida. She loved caring for folks in need or in pain. She had a heart full of the love and compassion of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was very active most of her life ministering to children in neighborhood Bible classes and Sunday schools. A favorite project was the Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry and she was always shopping for items to fill hundreds of shoeboxes over the years.
A favorite Scripture of Fayette’s was Proverbs 31 (read it), taking it seriously as a model for her life; she was a classic Proverbs 31 woman, a truly liberated (in Christ) woman who ran an efficient household, and her husband supported her and trusted her absolutely.
Fayette and Bill returned to live in Weston in 2001.
Fayette was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents, several aunts and uncles, and her brother Roger. She is survived by her husband, Bill, her brother Ron, and four sons: Todd (Sherry) of Wausau, David (Susan) of McHenry, IL, Nathan (Susan) of Elmhurst, IL, and Luke (Dawn) of Barrington, IL; thirteen grandchildren: Brittany, Cody (Rachel), Chad (Kelly), Dilan (Laura), Austin (Becky), Carley, Andrew, Lindsey, Kyle, Gabriel, Ito, Madilyn and Sadie; and five great-grandchildren: Makayla, Jack, Reese, August and Brenna.
Funeral services for Fayette are: Visitation at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, February 25. A Visitation at 10:00 AM will precede her Memorial Service at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 26, at Bible Truth Chapel, 1600 N. First Avenue, Wausau.

Janis Wiskow
Janis Wiskow, 81, of Wausau, died peacefully in her sleep February 18, 2018 at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Eau Claire.
Janis was born 8-18-1936 the third of three daughters to the late Willie and Stella (Treu) Raduenzel in the town of Hamburg, WI.
She graduated from Wausau High and went on to earn her licensure in Cosmetology. Janis married Ralph, the love of her life, on July 20, 1957 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Their love produced 3 children: Terry (George) Strodthoff, Mark (Denise) Wiskow, and Seth (Jeanette) Wiskow. Their love and family grew through many trials, losses and blessings over the next 52 years.
Janis worked for various salons as a beautician for nearly 20 years before being hired at JC Penney as a clerk. She worked there for 19 years, including 2 seasons alongside Ralph in the stockroom for their “Florida money”.
Ralph died 2-28-2011, leaving Janis with half a heart in which to survive the past 7 years. She continued to enjoy time with her children, 7 grand and 7 great-grandchildren whenever she could. Janis also found joy working her flower garden, driving her little blue car, eating out with friends, playing poker, going to the Casino with friends, involvement with her church and daily visits with her sister.
Janis was loyal to her friends, neighbors and family. She cared deeply for others, and was always willing to share whatever she had.
Her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has strengthened and sustained her all of her life. When asked what she wanted her family to know upon her death, she responded, “That I am with my Lord”.
Janis is survived by 3 generations of beloved children, grands and greats, her dearly loved sister, Lois Mumford, her faithful Monday Lunch friends, extended family and many wonderful friends. She is preceded in death by her first grandchild, Noah Strodthoff, and her oldest sister, Phyllis Miller.
The funeral service for Janis will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Wausau. Pastor Jennifer Dahle will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Janis will be laid to rest beside her beloved Ralph at Restlawn Memorial Park, Town of Texas. Sherrie Lynn Abt
Sherrie Lynn Abt, 59, Wausau, died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a four year battle with liver cancer.
Sherrie was born March 20, 1958 in Merrill to Herbert and Irene (Dahl) Riehle. She grew up on the family farm in Athens with her eight siblings. Sherrie attended Catholic School in Athens until the 8th grade and went on to graduate from Athens High School in 1976. Over the years, she farmed, worked for Marathon Cheese and spent the past 20 years with Kolbe & Kolbe working as a window sill manufacturer until this past November when her illness prevented her from working any more. Sherrie married Bruce Abt on September 3, 1993 in their home.
Sherrie was a very caring and selfless mother who never had a bad word to say about anyone. She never missed the opportunity to tell the ones she cared for that she loved them and compulsively hugged everyone. While living in Marathon, her outstanding gardening skills and green thumb led her to raise many successful gardens. In her free time, Sherrie enjoyed singing karaoke; especially the Carpenters, Stevie Nicks and Areosmith, which was an extension of her musical talents that she had since she was a child.
Sherrie’s strength and determination through hardship will never be forgotten. In 1993 she lost an eye to ocular melanoma; she worked through the change by relearning how to drive and continuing on with her life. Cancer returned four years ago when she was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer and her tough resolve granted her four more years together with her friends and family while receiving treatment from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Aspirus Oncology Department.
Sherrie is survived by her husband of 24 years, Bruce; children, Mandy and Travis (fiancée, Mao); grandchildren, Harley, Mariyah, Sierra and Mary; parents, Herbert and Irene Riehle; siblings, Shirley (Leon) Lewandowski, Steven (Jean) Riehle, Scott Riehle, Susan (John) Kamenick, Sally Ziech, Stanley (Marcia) Riehle, Stephen (Sara) Riehle and Stacie Ziegel; mother-in-law, June Abt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Allan “Jay”, Tammy (Chris), Barry, Lisa (Brian), Nancy (Brian), Pat (Marina), Steve (Cheryl), Mary (Ken), Susan (Frank), Faith (Steven) and David (Debra); cats, Buster and Maizy Baby; and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Edward Abt.
The funeral service for Sherrie will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Fr. Nate Kuhn will be officiating. Herbert (Herb) Lee Narloch, 83, passed away at home on February 17, 2018 into the arms of our Heavenly Father.
His family is at peace knowing that he can now spend his time fishing and bird watching with doughnut and coffee in hand while watching over his family from above. He will forever be remembered by his wife Pat of 63 years, his children Donald (Deb) Narloch, Linda (Curt) Collett, Lisa (Tracy) Snyder, and Laura (Ron) Schultze, along with one aunt Lois Johns, as well as his grandchildren Bradey, Bethany, Buffie, Steven, Sarah, Adam, Brian, and Jennifer, and eight great grandchildren.Herb was born in Wausau, WI on September 14, 1934 to Hilary (Harry) and Lucile Narloch who have proceeded him in death as well as his stepmother Caroline and sister Bev. Herb graduated from Wausau High School. He was a member of the Wausau Police Auxiliary unit for many years. Herb worked as a long distance truck driver for The Crestline Window Company retiring in 2000. He continued truck driving part time in retirement until he was 83.
Herb will be remembered for his bright face, warm smile, his love of conversing with everyone, for his love of his wife Pat, children, and grandchildren, memories of his hunting seasons with four generations, his enthusiasm for bingo nights, and the occasional scratch off tickets.Herb was an example of how to share God’s love through caring and providing for and loving others. (Matthew 5:16)

Esther Cherek
Esther B. Cherek, 92 of the town of Franzen, died on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at her home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.
Esther was born on February 21, 1925 in the town of Bevent, the daughter of the late Frank and Wanda (Nigbur) Bronk. On April 29, 1944, Esther was united in marriage to John Cherek in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1989.
Esther was a homemaker for many years and enjoyed quilting, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and reading. She also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds. Esther was an active member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent, and a lifetime member of its Rosary Society.
Esther is survived by six children, Tony (Jan) Cherek of Weston, Joan (Ray) Kiewit of Cornucopia, Vicki (Steve) Peterson of Eland, Dorothy (Marty) Snyder and Mary Jo Oliver all of Stevens Point and Jacob (Sandra) Cherek of Spencer; 16 Grandchildren; 22 Great-Grandchildren; sister, Millie Wanserski of Plover; step-sister, Lorraine Janick of Plover and sister-in-law, Cecelia Bronk of Sussex.
Esther is preceded in death by her husband John, parents, daughter Susan Cherek, son Robert Cherek, daughter-in-Law Rose Cherek, stepmother Anna Bronk and her siblings, Leonard, Robert, Hubert, Margaret Sorensen, and Louise DeKeyser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, February 23, 2018 at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Bevent. Fr. Augustine Bentil will officiate. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30AM by the St. Ladislaus Catholic Church Rosary Society with visitation at the church beginning at 9am until the time of Mass.
