Herbert W. King

Herbert W. King , 89 of Weston, passed away peacefully Friday February 23, 2018 at Aspirus Palliative Care of Wausau.

Herbert (Herb) was born on December 9, 1928 in Wausau, son of the late Fred W. and Emma (Knuth) King who were lifelong residents of the Wausau area. Herb and each of his 5 brothers proudly served their country in the United States Military. On February 24, 1958 Herb was united in marriage to Joyce Falk with whom he shared 60 years of life.

Herb worked at Lignotech, Rothschild until retirement and CWA Auction Weston until 2017. He also enjoyed working with his son and grandsons at Mitch King and Sons Trucking. He was a founding member of Redeemer Ev. Lutheran Church in Weston. Herb enjoyed hunting and tending his farm, as well as caring for wild birds.

He is survived by wife Joyce; and children, Carla Burton, Mitch (Gloria), Mike (Deb), Kevin and Chris (Rich) Wilkosz ; Herb has 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Herb was proceeded in death by five brothers, Robert, Raymond, Fred, Charles, and George King; and three sisters, Mildred Dehnel, Helen Schalow and Lucille Neubauer; and grandson Daniel Burton.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday March 1, 2018 at Redeemer Ev , Lutheran Church, 6404 Old Costa Lane, Weston. Rev. Andrew Franzo will officiate. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Brainard Funeral Home – Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston, and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Redeemer Ev. Lutheran Church.

Rich Konkol

Rich T. Konkol, 74, Hatley, died Saturday February 24, 2018 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born November 5, 1943, in Milwaukee, son of the late Clarence and Lorraine (Langteau) Konkol. On November 3, 1979, he married Sharon Sabert in Lake Tahoe.

After graduating from high school, Rich entered the United States Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division from January 1962 until January 1965. After his time in the service, Rich moved to California where he began his own tile contracting business. In 2003, Rich moved back to his hometown roots in Hatley where he continued his tile business until his retirement.

Rich utilized his professional tiling skills for a number of charitable organizations including Habitat for Humanity as well as the Helping Hands Project. He held a special place in his heart for the Helping Hands projects, especially the African Kenya Project. During his trips to Kenya he enjoyed the comradery of his travel companions and the new friends he met there while tiling St. Gabriel church and a hospital. Rich was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon, Hatley, son, Scott (Tracy) Konkol, Oconomowoc, step-son, Michael (Stacey) Sabert, Delafield, step-daughter, Jackie (Tom) Derengowski, Thornton, Colorado, Rick Green (Sylvia), father of his grandchildren, grandchildren, Steven Derengowski & Stephanie Derengowski, Derek (Emilee) Green, Dylan Green, Dawson Green, McKenna Konkol & Jessica Konkol, Julianna Sabert; siblings, Ed (Sharon) Wilke, Rib Mountain, Roger (Gloria) Konkol, Lumberton, NC, Reg (Lois) Konkol, Hatley, Deanna (Jim) Godin, Elderon and Melvin (Gail) Konkol, Kronenwetter, many friends in California, especially Ray and Earleen Bridgeman.

Besides his parents, Rich was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon Saturday March 3, 2018 at St. Florian Catholic Church, Hatley. Rev. Greg Bohren will preside. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements. Gerard M. Skrzypchak

As the house chimes rang loudly in the winter wind, Gerard M. Skrzypchak, 65, died peacefully on Sunday February 25, 2017, with family at his side.

Gerard was born in Wausau on November 2, 1952, son of the late John Jr. and Dorothy (Kraimer) Skrzypchak. He grew up on the family farm in the Town of Cassel, Marathon. He was a graduate of Marathon High School and attended NTC .

Gerard loved to work.

His first job was as yard foreman at Modern Builders and Suppliers. After one week, he was given a raise. During his time there he also built his first of five houses, nights and weekends.
In 1979 he began his career as the plant projects manager at Wisconsin Public Service, starting with the construction of the Weston 3 Power Plant. He learned mechanical, environmental, electrical and civil engineering on the job.

In 2011 he was a team presenter at the International Coal Ash Conference in Denver, explaining how fly ash was used for landfill to extend the east end of the CWA runway to create a safety way. He had State of Wisconsin, Department of Natural Resources, Solid Waste Disposal Facility Operator Certification.

He was assigned to be the underground connections go-to person when Weston 4 was started and needed to be connected to Weston 3. He was recognized by the Washington Group Construction Management team for performing the duties efficiently with no accidents or delays in construction.

Gerard retired December 31, 2013 after 34 ½ years at WPSC. He returned there in March 2014 as a contracted consultant and was required to take safety training as a new worker. He had created the Powerpoint training while at WPSC. (Note: he passed the training.)

He hired on to River View Construction in 2015 as a project manager until illness forced him to hang up his hard hat and yellow reflector vest in November 2016.

Gerard stoically endured partial tongue and neck lymph node removal, chemo and radiation treatments. He was the first patient at Marshfield Clinic – Weston that did not use pain medication during treatment. The radiation oncologist was astounded! Gerard credited Lily, the family’s cockapoo dog, for relieving his stress and pain, and bringing joy into the house.
Gerard married Jayne Snopl on August 23, 1975, in Wausau, she survives.

He was the proud father of two sons, Lee Skrzypchak (spouse Dawn Woodward) of Los Angeles and Joel Skrzypchak (spouse Emma Radomski) of Wauwatosa.
Gerard became a Grandpa in 2016. Barrett Cassius Skrzypchak was the light of his life. Gerard loved watching “Bear’s” antics on Facetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Mary Ann.

He is further survived by his siblings – Sy (Terri) Wera, Cable, WI; Theresa (Harry) Penrose, Schofield; Mary (David) Rajek, Marathon; Dale (Deborah) Skrzypchak, Wausau, and Trudy Ryan, Weston and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gerard was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau for over 40 years and was instrumental to the construction of the recent Gathering Space addition. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. Marilyn A. Heidvogel

Marilynn A. Heidvogel, 75, Wausau died Saturday, February 24, 2018 under the care of Interim Hospice at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 22, 1942 in Fremont, Nebraska, daughter of the late William and Adeline (Craven) Talbot. On February 8, 1964 she married John Heidvogel in Omaha, Nebraska. He survives.

For many years Marilynn was an interior decorator for Ethan Allen in Wausau. She enjoyed raising her four children and being a homemaker but nothing compared to being a grandmother and a great grandmother. She cherished the time she spent with her family and will be deeply missed by everyone.

Marilynn was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Wausau and enjoyed volunteering there for many years. She was also a proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and also one great granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband John Heidvogel, Wausau, her four children, Patricia (Thomas) Keil, LaCrosse; Richard (Beth) Heidvogel, Oconomowoc; Karen (Paul) Nell, Brookfield and Jennifer Heidvogel, Wales; 13 grandchildren, Cora and Jack Keil; Richard (Grace) Heidvogel, Hannah, John Thomas, William, Madeline, Grace and Mackenzie Heidvogel; Heidi and Emma Nell and Callie and LuLu Guebard, one great granddaughter, Lucy Heidvogel. Two brothers, William (Annie) Talbot and Jim Talbot, both of Dallas and one sister, Kathy (Barry) Denton, San Antonio, Texas and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Talbot.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. concluding with the rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home at 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. preceded by a 10:30 a.m. rosary on Friday, March 2, 2018 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Wausau. Canon Aaron Huberfeld will preside. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, town of Maine.

Elroy Plautz

Elroy Frank Plautz, 87, Wausau, died Saturday February 24, 2018 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Elroy was born September 18, 1930 in the Town of Maine to the late Frank and Margaret (Henning) Plautz. He married Amaryllis “Amy” Kopplin on May 12, 1956 and the couple celebrated 61 loving years together. Elroy worked for the James River Corporation for 37 years.

Elroy is survived by his beloved wife, Amy; and extended family and friends.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Dr. Steven Gjerde will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park. Andres Garcia

Andres Garcia 65, Wisconsin Rapids passed away on February 22, 2018 at Aspirus Wauau Hospital.  He was born to Jose and Herminia (Dias) Garcia on November 17, 1952 in Mission, TX.

He helped raise his two great nieces, Beatrice (Badley) Webie, Jessica (Jay) Newby and great nephew, Daniel Gonzalez Jr.

He is survived by one brother Ramone Garcia, TX, one sister, Rosa Garcia, Wis. Rapids, his fiance, Elizabeth Deckard, Wis. Rapids, His nephew, Daniel (Flora) Gonzalez Sr, along with many other nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his long time friend, Kathleen Deckard, Three brothers, Juan Garcia, Salvador Garcia, Fidel Garcia and Two sisters Josephina Garcia and Rosa Guadalupe Garcia.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at JOHN J. BUETTGEN FUNERAL HOME 631 East Grand Ave. Wisconsin Rapids, from 4:00-7:00.  Mass will be on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11:30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father John Swing officiating, with one hour visitation prior.

Dorothy Mae Gardner

Dorothy Mae Gardner, 88, of Birnamwood, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Homme Home of Wittenberg, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Dorothy was born on January 22, 1930 in the Village of Mattoon, the daughter of the late Howard and Edna (Larson) Knowles.On January 12, 1952, Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald Gardner in Waukegan, IL. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1993.

Dorothy and her husband spent many years leading the music programs at various churches. Together they enjoyed playing instruments, leading the choir, and singing their favorite hymns. Dorothy was very active in her hometown church in Mattoon. She was known for her cooking and wrote beauiful poems. She lived for her children and grandchildren and was always so proud of them and their accomplishments.

Dorothy is survived by four daughters, Toni (Mike) Olson of Birnamwood, Teri (special friend Pat) Fletcher of Akron, OH, Traci (Marvin) Matsche of Birnamwood and Thresa (Rob) Maddix of St. Petersburg, FL; ten grandchildren, Todd (Cindy) Olson, Brent (Jordyn) Olson, Shelly (Karl) Spaay, Kelli (Brian) Fitting, Matt (Raechel) Gardner, Garrett (special friend Kristen) Matsche, Chris Matsche, Taylor Matsche, Steve (Aleshia) Olson and Cody Olson; three great-grandchildren, Trent and Nash Gardner and Emma Olson; one brother, Harold (Carole) Knowles of Birnamwood and one sister-in-law, Jane (Arnie) Carlson of Antigo.

Dorothy was also preceded in death by her two sons, Todd and Trent, mother and father-in-law, Rev. C.L. and Erma Gardner, two brothers, Ronald and Howard Knowles and one brother-in-law, John Eggleston.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Mattoon Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Bob Hess will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, town of Hutchins.
