TOWN OF PINE RIVER — Despite lifesaving efforts by firefighters, a 9-month-old puppy was euthanized after being caught in town of Pine River fire.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department responded Tuesday at 11:22 a.m. to N819 Grant Wood Court for a report of a structure fire, according to a news release. By the time the 911 call came in, one side of the duplex was already engulfed in flames. By the time deputies arrived, the building was collapsing. Police say the duplex is a total loss.
Fire crews rescued the puppy from the duplex but were not able to save the animal, which was euthanized at a local animal hospital due to extensive injuries, police said.
Firefighters are continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze but it does not appear to be suspicious. The American Red Cross provided aid to the two families who were displaced by the fire.
A Trooper from the Wisconsin State Patrol also assisted on the scene.
