Edward J. Dietel
Edward J. Dietel, 68, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 on Northern Reflections at Mount View Care Center in Wausau.
Eddie was born in Marshfield on June 6, 1949 to the late Edward P. and Agnes G. (King) Dietel. He graduated from high school in 1967. Upon graduation, Eddie joined the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1969. After his service in the USAF, Eddie began his employment at the Paper Mill in Menasha. Throughout his life, he lived in Mosinee, Stevens Point and Wausau.
Eddie was a whiz at jeopardy, he enjoyed stopping at the Mint Café for a sandwich or taking a walk over to the Alibi to have a beer.
Eddie is survived by his brothers, Robert, William, Joseph (Brenda Novak) and James (Jenny) Dietel; his sister Carollyn (Jim Wolfgram) Obremski; as well as six nieces and nephews and five great-nieces.
Beside his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his brother Richard.
Private family services will be held per Eddie’s wishes.

Joan Puerner
Joan L. Puerner, 89, Wausau died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
She was born December 14, 1928 in Wausau, daughter of the late Wallace and Agnes (Tetzlaft) Puerner.
For many years Joan worked as a nurse anesthetist at the former St. Mary’s Hospital in Wausau. Some of her favorite pastimes included gardening, knitting and being outdoors.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Robert, Wallace and Rev. John W. Puerner and Margaret Kornash.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. Msgr. Mark Pierce will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services all at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements. Deloris Heier
Deloris C. Heier, 88, Athens, died Friday, February 23, 2018 under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice at Dycora Transitional Health, Abbotsford.
She was born April 28, 1929 in town of Rietbrock, daughter of the late Andrew and Julia (Nowicki) Witucki. On September 12, 1951 she married Lawrence Heier at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski, and they raised four children together. After the children were grown, she took on a part time position at the Athens Drycleaning LLC, a job she liked very much. She enjoyed meeting and chit-chatting with people, she was always quick with a funny one-liner. Family birthday parties were highlights in her life, having a drink, playing cards, especially Canasta and Sheepshead with her family. She was always the first one at the table.
Survivors include her children, Gary (Kathy) Heier, Plover, Laurel Heier, Athens, Jay (Carole Luszcak) Heier, Athens and Dee (Steve) Brewster, Athens; grandchildren, Mike (Erika) Heier, Plover, Adam (Sara Woodard) Heier, Madison, Steve (Elizabeth Reeths) Heier, Wausau, Jayson Heier, Madison, April (Devin) Cyzan, Wausau, Aaron Brewster, Eau Claire, Elizabeth Brewster, Madison; great-grandchildren, Lila Heier, Plover and Deklan Cyzan, Wausau; brothers, Kenneth (Denise) Witucki , Spring Valley, and Rev. Roy Witucki, Custer; sisters-in-law, Shirley Witucki, Norma Heier, Marcella Sobie and Henrietta (Harvey) Klympyan.
Besides her parents and husband, Lawrence, she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter, niece and Goddaughter, Linda Rogers, niece, Lisa Heldt, nephews, Dennis Heier, Tom Klumpyan and Paul Sobie.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. George Graham and Rev. Roy Witucki will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dycora Transitional Health for their devotion and friendship to Deloris. She had her sense of humor and clever quips to the very end. Lastly, thanks to Ministry Home Care Hospice for her comfort during her last few days.

Josefine ‘Josie’ Horrell, 92 of Mattoon, WI was reunited with her husband and sons as she slipped into the arms of the lord on Friday, Feb. 23rd, 2018. She was at her home surrounded by her beloved flowers under the loving care of her family and the incredible support and kindness of the Leroyer Hospice Staff.
She was born on Feb. 16, 1926 in Unter Vollmau, Czechoslovakia daughter of the late Franz & Maria (Macht) Langer.
On May 12, 1948 she married Lawrence ‘Mike’ Horrell in Furth in Wald, Germany with whom she raised two sons and a daughter.
She grew up in ?eská Kubice , Czech Republic where her and her family endured unbelievable hardships, suffering and the loss of everything, including the lives of friends and family, during World War II and the Cold War. There wasn’t much happiness for them during this time.
In 1945 she taught kindergarten during which time she was continuously in harm’s way. Her family’s home was partially destroyed during the war and subsequently used as a base for some American soldiers. Her and her family were eventually forced out of Czechoslovakia with nothing but the clothes on their back, at which time they walked, terrified, with a toddler and a baby into Germany and started their lives over. They were without money and even the basic necessities of life such as food, water and shelter. During this time, Josefine survived being shot at, thrown from a train and being placed in a work camp for two years.
She saw much death and destruction.
She met Lawrence “Mike” Horrell, in Furth im Wald, Germany at a dance and she laughingly said he danced like an old bear! They later married!
In November of 1949, she and her family arrived in New York and moved to Kentucky. In 1950, she visited an Aunt in Wisconsin and decided that she loved the small town of Mattoon and it was to be their home; Mike eventually agreed. There they shared a life together until Mike’s death on Sept. 23rd, 1994. Josefine continued to live in the same home until her death.
Josefine held many jobs in her lifetime, not being afraid of hard work, she would take on any job to help and contribute to her family. She was a kindergarten teacher and worked in a feather factory in Germany. After moving to the USA, she a homemaker extraordinaire, worked in potato and pea fields, cleaned homes, bartended at the Flamingo Inn and Henry’s Bar & Food, waitressed and cooked at Mary’s Café and worked at Pizza Joe’s for many years.
She was an avid gardening and had an amazing green thumb. Her immaculate yard and beautiful flowers were a source of great pride. Josefine participated in gardening and caring for her yard into her 91st summer. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to bring her bouquets of flowers.
There were no dumplings and sauerkraut quite like Josefine’s and she showed much love through her cooking. Her family especially loved her chicken dumpling soup and boiled dinner!
She loved chicken wings, the turkey neck, Taco Johns, lemon meringue pie, pancakes with strawberries from Ihop, pizza from Melody Mill, hot dogs burnt on the grill and she occasionally “got a ‘tashte’ for a beer”! She had a great sense of humor, watched the Young and the Restless quite religiously and was known to lovingly wield a wooden spoon now and again. She was always wearing her rings, lipstick and nail polish, even to mow the lawn!
She was immensely proud of her family in which she instilled her immeasurable work ethic and “earn what you get/have” attitude, they were a source of great joy and happiness for her. She was lovingly “feared” by her grandchildren whom never wanted to disappoint or let her down. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren sat upon her lap, held her hand and filled her heart as she helped care for them through the years. Her husband and many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately referred to her as “Feenie”.
If you had the opportunity and pleasure to visit Josefine at her home, you knew that there would always be coffee and cake, or some other delicious sweets offered. It was just as well know that, well, you just didn’t turn this down….sit down, enjoy and visit! Ever the perfect hostess, even in her final days.
Josefine led an incredible life that molded her into the strong, independent, hard-working, loving and generous woman that she became. She had unbelievable determination, an incredible will to survive, undying devotion and at times, much to the dismay of her family, the stubbornness of a mule! No matter what situation she was presented with, no matter how challenging; she was able to overcome it and persevere. Her deep belief in her faith was of great comfort during these times.

In addition to her husband and parents, Josefine was preceded in death by her brother, Frank and her sister Mary along with the heartbreaking loss of her two sons, Ernie Horrell and David Horrell.
She was a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a mother, a grandmother, a friend, a neighbor….she was the family matriarch and she was a survivor.
Although we will all miss her dearly, let’s celebrate her amazing life. Let’s also share our memories and make sure that her spirit lives on in all of us.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Friday, March 2, 2018 at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church, Phlox. Fr. Charles Hoffmann and Deacon Tony Debroux will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, town of Hutchins. Visitation will be on Friday from 9AM until the time of Mass at the church. Dennis G. Wyman, 69, of Iola, passed away at home Monday, Feb. 26, after a battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Dennis, often called “Denny” by his friends, was born May 21, 1948, to the late Roy and Beverly (Mortson) Wyman. He attended Elderon and Wittenberg schools, and after graduation he served in the Navy from 1966-1970.
Dennis was a lifelong learner who was fascinated with language and etymology. He was a truck driver by trade, but a student and teacher in his personal life – constantly seeking knowledge and sharing it with those close to him. He was a formidable player of Cribbage, Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, and word games of all kinds.
Dennis was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and dedicated fan of his beloved Elderon Whiskey Jacks. Those who knew him best will remember his wit, devilish smile and lead foot. He was a charmer who was full of rebellious good humor, a loyal friend, and a genuinely good man.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary Buss, whom he married in 2008 after a 20-year relationship; his two children, Hali (John) Strand and Ross (Courtney) Wyman, from his first marriage to Rita Carlson; three grandchildren, Johnny and Henry Strand and Natalie Wyman; two brothers, Gary (Bernie) Wyman and Pete (Sue) Wyman; his uncle Mike Simonis, and many other dear family members and friends.
