NEWS RELEASE – Aspirus Wausau Hospital (AWH) is improving access to a vital service in area communities.
A brand-new 40-foot mobile mammogram vehicle with advanced 3D technology arrived at AWH February 26. It will replace the current vehicle providing 2D mammograms across the Aspirus service area in Wisconsin.
“It essentially brings the technology to the patient at a community clinic or a place of business,” said Ryan Marciniak, director of diagnostic imaging at AWH. “The new vehicle ensures all the communities we serve have access to this advanced 3D technology, which produces more accurate results in the screening process and truly makes a difference in the fight against breast cancer.”
Studies have demonstrated a 10-30 percent increase in overall breast cancer detection when combining 3D mammography with conventional 2D mammography. This ability to detect breast cancer at an earlier stage helps save more lives.
AWH is scheduled to hold an open house on Tuesday, March 13 from noon – 2 p.m. to showcase the vehicle to the public on the north side of the hospital near the Emergency Department entrance.
