MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee police say a suspect in a kidnapping was found dead after a standoff at a home on the city’s north side.

Authorities say the 34-year-old man was found inside the home Saturday afternoon, nearly 15 hours after he stopped communicating with negotiators.

The Journal Sentinel reports investigators are trying to determine the cause of death.

The incident began early Friday when three gunmen entered a home and kidnapped a man and a woman. The kidnappers took the pair to another home. Shots were fired and the man was left behind but survived.

The suspects then took the woman to the home where the standoff began. Police rescued the woman and arrested two men. But the third man remained holed up, telling authorities he would not go back to jail.
