WAUSAU — A 57-year-old Wittenberg man is accused of assaulting an elderly man during an alleged parking dispute, according to court documents.
Police were called to Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston to investigate the alleged assault after an employee described the altercation, some of which was caught on surveillance video. Two witnesses also came forward.
Investigators say the 88-year-old victim had dropped his wife off at the entrance of the hospital before driving into a parking space next to William Schultz.
Witnesses said they saw Schultz get out of his vehicle and heard him screaming and swearing at the man before grabbing the victim by the arms, slamming his left hand against a door frame and shoving the man back into his own vehicle. The witnesses said they heard Schultz accuse the victim of scratching his vehicle.
The alleged victim was bruised and shaken, but not badly injured. He told police he initially did not want to press charges because he thought Schultz was having problems and “needed help,” according to the police report.
Schultz was arrested March 8, one day after the alleged assault occurred. He appeared March 9 in Marathon County Circuit Court, where he faces charges of aggravated assault of an elderly victim and disorderly conduct. He was released on a $800 signature bond and is due in court April 5 for a pretrial conference.
