WESTON, Wis. – Everest Metro Police continue to try and track down the source of a threat that stymied a planned walkout Wednesday at D.C. Everest Senior High School.
Chief Clayton Schulz says his officers got a call Wednesday morning about the potential threat.
“We were notified by our school resource officer and administration that there were some rumors about a potential threat that was going to occur during the walkout,” Schulz said.
At this time, Schulz says the whole thing might have just been a rumor.
“We’re still trying to backtrack and find something to take action, but we thought it was a good decision to bring things indoors to be on the safe side,” he explained.
Students observed 17 minutes of silence inside the school gymnasium to remember the 17 victims of the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School school massacre.
Schulz says officers immediately began tracking down the source of those rumors, but at this point have not been able to identify a confirmed source.
“The report was that someone had posted something on a social media venue,” Schulz said. “We still have not seen any information, specifically, about the threat.”
If police can find a source of the threat, Schulz says his department will be taking appropriate action.
