WAUSAU — Local police are investigating a bomb threat discovered Tuesday written on a bathroom stall at John Muir Middle School in Wausau.

In an email sent to John Muir parents, Principal Larry Mancl said that school and law enforcement officials believe there is no merit to the threat.

Mancl tells Wausau Pilot and Review that school officials continue to work directly with the Wausau Police Department and central office administration to identify the person or persons responsible for the written threat.

“As pertinent information becomes available, it will be shared with parents and guardians,” Mancl wrote, in an email to Wausau Pilot and Review. “Our staff is watching students closely and our counselors are available to work with any student who may be experiencing distress. ”

Classes are scheduled as normal for Wednesday.  If a parent or guardian elects to excuse their child or children on Wednesday, it will be coded as “Parent Excused,” Mancl wrote.

“We respect a parent or guardian’s decision to do so.”
