Christine Kadonsky, Wausau West High School Social Studies teacher, was recognized as the Distinguished High School Teacher of the Year by the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies (WCSS) at the organization’s annual conference in Madison on March 12, 2018.
Kadonsky, a Wausau native, is in her seventeenth year of teaching Early U.S. History to ninth grade students at Wausau West, where she also serves as Department Leader.
Kadonsky earned a Master of Arts – History (2006) from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire by completing two fellowships, the UWEC Learning by Doing Fellowship and the national James Madison Memorial Fellowship. In summer 2010, she served as the James Madison Congressional Fellow in the office of Representative Bobby Scott (VA). Kadonsky continued her professional development by participating in 24 out-of-state teacher seminars and study trips to six countries. She serves as a Teacher Facilitator for George Washington Teacher Institutes at Mount Vernon. At the state level, Kadonsky served on the WCSS Executive Board for 15 years. In 2016, she was recognized by the Wausau Daily Herald Media with a “20 Under 40” young professional leadership award.
WCSS is the largest professional organization of social studies educators in the state. The goals of WCSS are to improve social studies teaching, develop the professional interests of social studies instructors, and cooperate with other organizations working for a better social understanding in the state, nation, and world.
