NEWS RELEASE – Continuing to address Wisconsin’s psychiatrist shortage and treat patients in under resourced areas, the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW)-Central Wisconsin welcomes three new residents to the area for a four-year psychiatry placement, beginning this summer.
The MCW-Central Wisconsin Psychiatry Residency Program is based in Wausau, Stevens Point, Rhinelander and Tomah. The residents work directly with the psychiatrists practicing in these communities to help provide quality, cost effective and accessible mental health services.
The three new residents are Shweta Anand Karve, MD, Christian Ryser and Tsarina Rachel VanWieren.
Dr. Karve received both her undergraduate and medical degrees at Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College in Pune, India. She now lives in Sunnyvale, Calif., and works as a research assistant at the Stanford University Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Karve has extensive clinical experience. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking drawing, reading and crafting.
Christian Ryser will graduate with his medical degree this spring from Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine. He also holds a master’s in forensic science from Arcadia University. Ryser is an outdoors enthusiast who enjoys running, cycling, hiking, backpacking, skiing and scuba diving. In his second year of medical school, he was honored for his 100+ hours of community service.
Tsarina Rachel VanWieren will earn her medical degree this spring, as well, from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. She ranks in the top of her class and is involved in Score 1 For Health, a program that gives free medical screenings to thousands of children from urban, low-income families. VanWieren enjoys hiking in the mountains with her fiancé, exploring new places, cooking and watching hockey.
