FORT MORGAN, Ala. (AP) — Poor weather is hindering search efforts for a Wisconsin teenager who went missing while swimming at an Alabama beach.

WALA-TV reports family member identified the missing teenager as 17-year-old Jevon Lemke of Reedsville, Wisconsin, who was vacationing on the Gulf Coast of Alabama.

The Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a call shortly before 2:00 p.m. Sunday of a teen swept under by the rip current on Fort Morgan Beach. Unlike Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan does not have lifeguards stationed on beach areas or a beach flag system.

Authorities searched in boats and by air until dark Sunday, then resumed their efforts at daybreak Monday. But low visibility kept aircraft grounded and the surf caused local firefighters to pull boats equipped with sonar devices from the water.

As of 2:55 p.m. Monday, the Coast Guard suspended its search, pending new developments.

Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island and Air Station New Orleans searched the area covering 93 square nautical miles for over 11 hours.
