WAUSAU, Wis. – Nine out of 10 Americans most at risk for type 2 diabetes are not aware of the potential perils they could face according to the American Diabetes Association.

Held March 27, 2018, American Diabetes Association Alert Day sounds the alarm about the prevalence of type 2 diabetes by asking everyone to take a type 2 diabetes risk test.

The test can be accessed at diabetes.org and is designed to help people learn if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, risk factors of type 2 diabetes include obesity, age, ethnicity and genetics.

Aspirus is offering four classes during the month of April to help people manage pre-diabetes or reduce their risk for diabetes. The classes are scheduled from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. The classes cost $10 and are taught by registered dietitians, registered nurses, and exercise professionals.
