MARATHON COUNTY — Police say a 32-year-old suspect sought after a high speed chase through south metro communities and Marathon County is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached by members of the public.

Jerry Toube Vang, who is also known by the nickname “Joker,” was involved in a high speed chase late Tuesday that began at 10:15 p.m. in Rib Mountain before winding through Rothschild, Weston, and eastern Marathon County, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say Vang eluded deputies and remains at large. He is wanted for fleeing and for questioning in an ongoing investigation.

Vang in August 2013 was convicted of sexual assault of a child and battery and was sentenced to five years in prison with 280 days credit for time served while awaiting trial, according to court records. He was released from prison in early November and is now on extended supervision for five years. Violating the terms of his supervision could result in an additional five-year prison term.

Court records show Vang has a string of prior convictions including battery, cocaine possession, and other drug-related charges.

Police have not said what led to the chase or why they suspect Vang is armed, but are urging the public to call in tips if they have any information on Vang’s whereabouts.

Anyone with information about Vang should contact the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office at 715-261-1200. Tips can also be sent to Marathon County Crimestoppers by calling 1-877-409-8777, through the online tip form, or through the P3 app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
