WAUSAU — Investigators continue to search for a cause of a weekend fire in Wausau that badly damaged a Wausau home.

Wausau Fire Lt. Brian Stahl tells Wausau Pilot and Review there is no obvious cause of the blaze, which broke out just after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 600 block of Park Avenue.

“So far it appears suspicious in a way, but that doesn’t mean arson,” Stahl said. “There was no obvious ignition source where the fire started. Whether it was accidental or something else, we don’t know at this point.”

Three children and a dog escaped the burning home with no injuries, Stahl said.

The fire appears to have started on the front porch, where most of the damage happened. Stahl said the interior of the house was damaged by smoke and water, but not by flames.

Fire officials are continuing their investigation in partnership with the Wausau Police Department.
