MERRILL — A 29-year-old Merrill man will face felony drug charges after a K9 officer discovered an estimated $1,000 in methamphetamine in his vehicle, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was spotted driving on Hwy. 17 north of Merrill by a deputy who knew the driver had a felony warrant out for his arrest, police said. The warrant was for absconding from his probation.
The deputy, with assistance from Merrill Police, stopped the vehicle at 11:41 p.m. on Hwy. G at Sales Street. After the suspect was arrested on the warrant charge, K9 Officer Nina discovered the drugs inside the vehicle, police said.
The man was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia along with the warrant from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
He is due in court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday for a bond hearing. Police say an investigation is ongoing.
