Alvin Jansen

Alvin Jansen, 87, Athens, died Tuesday April 24, 2018, at Copperleaf Assisted Living, Schofield, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

He was born May 16, 1930, in Marathon, son of the late William and Laura (Vetter) Jansen. On June 22, 1955, he married Grace Osterbrink at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She preceded him in death April 17, 2017.

Alvin proudly served his country during the Korean War with the Army Airborne. Prior to his retirement, Alvin and Grace were ginseng farmers in the town of Rib Falls. Alvin was also employed as a Federal Food Inspector with the USDA. Among his favorite pastimes were fishing and trips to the casino.

Survivors include his children, Cathleen (Mike) Hargraves, Weston, Jean (Andy) Trudell, Tomahawk and James (Mary) Jansen, Wausau, his grandchildren, Jason (Becca) Hargraves, Michelle (Ken) Kaminski, Amy (Adam) Frei, Kristi Trudell and Ashley Jansen and Kyle (Shelby) Jansen, his great grandchildren, Bobbi and Brittany (Zack Krause) Hargraves, Leeland Kaminski and Teagan Trudell, two sisters, Evelyn (Bill) Schmidt, Athens and Ruth Neumann, Amherst. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Marcell, Truman and Donald Jansen.

A Private Memorial Mass was held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon, with burial in the parish cemetery. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com.


Arleva Fellowes

Arleva Fellowes, 83, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2018, at home in the presence of loving family at her bedside.

She was born to James and Canzada ( nee’ Burgess) Reese on Sept. 25, 1934, in Crossville, Tennesee. She married George Fellowes in Hinsdale, Illinois in 1957. Arleva and George were the parents of four beautiful children: Cynthia, George, Rodger, and Gladys.

She was a devoted wife and mother. Arleva was an avid reader, of which the Holy Bible was her daily source of inspiration and joy. Arleva was a consummate “Word Search” finder and a master puzzler.

Arleva was an active member of the Wisconsin Rapids Seventh-Day Adventist church where she enjoyed the fellowship of the members and was well regarded an respected for her knowledge of the Bible and biblical insight. Arleva was one of the first persons you met upon entering the WR SDA church as a greeter. Arleva’s welcoming smile and bubbling personality was the perfect introduction into the House of the Lord. As the Matriarch of the church, Arleva was present and participated in most church events, both formal and secular.

Arleva is preceded in death by her husband, George Fellowes, son Rodger Fellowes and grandson Lance Henery Lecher.

Arleva is survived by her three children Cynthia Fellowes, Wisconsin Rapids, and George (Kathi) Fellowes, Wisconsin Rapids, and Liew (Deanne) Fellowes, Port Edwards, and Gladys (Dan) Hale, Crossville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 611 24th St. N., Wisconsin Rapids, on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Services were officiated by Pastor Joseph Pericellia.

Mike “MJ” Jackson

Mike “MJ” Jackson, 54, of Marathon, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018, at the William S. Middleton Veteran’s Hospital in Madison, following multiple years of health struggles stemming from a heart transplant that he had 24 years ago.  He fought his battle so hard, but couldn’t beat this one.

He was born on January 3, 1964, in Wausau, the son of the late Gerald and Nancy (Burke) Jackson.  He was a graduate of Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School, class of 1983.  He served his country in the US Navy from 1983-1987, where he was deployed on the USS Deyo to multiple Caribbean locations.

MJ was a jack of all trades, and took pride in every job he ever had.  He easily made many life-long friends with his quick wit and great sense of humor, which he will always be remembered for.

Survivors include his sister, Kay (John) Balzano of San Antonio, TX; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Burke of Chippewa Falls; niece, Miranda Jackson of Eau Claire; nephew, Jack Balzano, TX; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jane Jackson, and brother, Dan Jackson.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Holy Family – St. William Catholic Church in Wittenberg, with visitation from 9 AM until the time of Mass. The Rev. David McElroy, O.Praem. will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted by the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post #502.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018, at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Boyd, WI.

The family would like to thank the staff of the William S. Middleton Veteran’s Hospital in Madison for the care that they gave to Mike.
