WAUSAU — Students from John Marshall Elementary School in Wausau raised money for The Salvation Army last month by recycling cans.

The students collected cans throughout the month of April with the theme “John Marshall CAN Make a Difference,” and on May 3 presented Lt. Donna Thammavongsa with a check for $160.

The program, spearheaded by a group of third graders, was part of the school’s Earth Day celebration with a dual purpose of saving the earth and helping the community, according to the school’s newsletter.
