WESTON — The Woodson YMCA Aspirus Branch will host two types of races on Sunday, June 3, to help keep children active.

The Family Relay and Youth Triathlon offer kid-friendly distances for swimming, biking and running. The Relay distance is a 100-yard swim, 3.5-mile bike ride and a half-mile run.  For the Youth Triathlon, kids will swim 50 yards, bike two miles and run a half mile.

“We wanted to offer families in the area the opportunity to promote healthy living together in a fun way and what better way than a triathlon,” said Melissa Hoffman, health and wellness director at the Woodson YMCA, in a news release. “There’s something for everyone in the swim, bike and run event. Parents are welcome to accompany any racer on any portion of the course whether they are on an official relay team or not.”

The (untimed) Family Relay option allows two- or three-person teams, including at least one adult and at least one child per team. Children ages 5 and older can participate (at least one adult needed if child is 6 or younger). Children 7-12 can register as a team without an adult.

The Youth Triathlon option is for kids 7-12 years of age who can complete the entire event individually. Parents are welcome to be present on deck and/or complete the bike/run leg of the course with their child.

The event, open to members or non-members, will begin in the Aspirus Branch Pool. The bike and run portions for the relay and triathlon will be held just outside the Y branch. The Family Relay is $30 per team. Entry fee for the Youth Triathlon is $15 per child. Race time is 8 a,m, for relay teams and 8:30 a.m. for individuals. A T-shirt, snacks and water will be provided.
