Elmer Becker

Elmer H. Becker died on May 9, 2018, in Weston, Wisconsin at the age of 97.

He was born on July 23, 1920, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Otto and Emma Becker. He was the third child of a family of four children. His father was a lifetime teacher in Lutheran parochial schools. Elmer also followed this profession for 42 years until he retired at age 65. He studied for the teaching profession at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, and graduated in 1941. He taught one year in Marysville, Kansas, and transferred to Lombard, Illinois, in 1942 to teach at Trinity Lutheran School in York Center just south of Lombard. He met Delores Nordbrock there and they were married in 1951. In 1952, he accepted a call to teach at St. Martins’ Lutheran school in Winona, Minnesota. After six years there, he accepted a call to teach at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Chicago Heights, Illinois, where he taught until his retirement in 1985.

Elmer is survived by Delores, his wife of 66 years; three children: Mark (Joanne) Becker of Crete, IL, James (Natalie) Becker of Weston, WI, and Patricia (Michael) Fry of Bloomington, IL; eight grandchildren; David (Caryn) Becker of Homewood, IL, Stephanie Becker of Crete, IL, Katherine Becker of Wheaton, IL, Sarah Becker of West Allis, WI, Kyle Becker of Sheboygan, WI, Eric Becker of Weston, WI, Haley Fry of Chicago, IL, and Ellery Fry of Tampa, FL; and one great grandson: Barrett Becker of Homewood, IL.

Elmer will be greatly missed by his wife, family and many cousins and other relatives and friends but they are comforted in the hope of a reunion with our Savior Jesus in heaven and our loved ones who have gone before.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 12:00 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3212 Old Costa Lane, Schofield. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Andrew Franzo will officiate.

Joyce Marschall Steinagel

Joyce Elaine (Burkart) Marschall Steinagel of Wausau, passed away on May 9, 2018.

Joyce was born on February 16, 1923, to the late Chester and Frances (Darling) Burkart. She graduated from Wausau Senior High in 1941. Joyce was married on August 12, 1943, to Orville Marschall who preceded her in death on March 23, 1976. Joyce later married Harold Steinagel on March 12, 1983, who preceded her in death on April 29, 2016. Joyce retired as Welfare Director and Health Officer after 14 years for the Town of Rib Mountain in 1962. She later worked at Wausau Insurance Company and retired again in 1982.

She loved singing in Holy Name Catholic Church’s choir, in Wausau Insurance’s choir and St. Mark’s Lutheran choir. Joyce was active in the Rib Mountain Golf League, and was a past president of VFW Auxiliary of Burns Post 388 of Wausau. Through the years she enjoyed golfing, bowling, dancing, fishing, knitting, embroidery and card playing. Joyce loved her time spent in Arizona every winter, and her time at the cottage in the summer with her children and grand-children.

Joyce is survived by her children, Thomas (Corri) Marschall Sr., Kathleen J. Schoepke, Sandra (Joseph) Crean; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; step children, Whitey (Pam) Steinagel, Fred (Marilyn) Steinagel, Char (Joe) Windorski, Mike (Joan) Steinagel; 13 step grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; and 1 step great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Ninabuck-Gothann; brother in law, Dale Marschall; step daughter, Lanette Steinagel; and step grandson, Cody Sliwicki.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 12, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 600 Stevens Drive, Wausau. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Bruce Lamont will officiate.

Dorothy Roesler

Dorothy Roesler, 93, Athens died Monday, May 7, 2018, under the care of Ministry Home Care Marshfield Hospice at Colonial Center Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Colby.

She was born July 29, 1924, in Medford, daughter of the late Casper and Louise (Piessig) Boxrucker. On August 26, 1944, she married Ervin Roesler in Athens. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2001.

Dorothy worked at Merrill Canning, Fromm Brothers Ginseng, town of Hamburg and also owned and operated Roesler’s Bar for many years. Some of her favorite pastimes included sewing, making quilts for family, nursing homes and World relief programs. She also enjoyed jig saw puzzles, garage and rummage sales and going out to eat.

Survivors include her children, Bonnie Myszka, Athens, John (Lorna) Roesler, Medford, Linda Roesler, Athens, Gordon “Gordie” (Kitty) Roesler, Marathon and Gene (Stacy) Roesler, Athens, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and one expected in July, one brother, George Boxrucker, Athens and one sister, Lucille Perrodin, Athens and two sisters-in-law, Olga Kuck, Wausau and Janette Roesler, Milwaukee.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Donna Myszka and Tonya Schug, three brothers and one sister.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, 486 County Road F, town of Hamburg. Private family burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.

Peter Thuot

Peter John Jr. Thuot, 81, Easton, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018, doing what he loved. He was out in the fields at home on the farm. He was born May 23, 1936, in Athens Wisconsin, son of the late Peter and Lydia (Roesler) Thuot and was raised in Athens in a family of six sons and one daughter. On August 1, 1964, he married Carol Jean Falkowski.

Peter has three sons, six granddaughters and three daughters-in-law. He is survived by all of his immediate family: wife Carol, his children and grandchildren, Tod (Amy) Thuot, Edgar, Wisconsin and their daughters Marissa & Mariah; Brad (Polly) Thuot, Madison, Wisconsin and their daughters Alyssa & Alice; Mark (Gretchen) Thuot, Hatley, Wisconsin and their daughters Victoria & Elise.

He also leaves behind two brothers Ray (Therese) and Calvin (Faye) and his sister Grace Lang, along with many nieces and nephews. Peter served in the United States Army in peace time and his tour took him through Europe. Most of his life was spent here in central Wisconsin area enjoying his biggest adventure raising his family on a farm in Ringle that is still home to his wife of 52 years.

Peter was happiest spending time with family and being outside on the farm doing what farmers do.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at John J. Buettgen Funeral Home, 631 E. Grand Ave., Schofield. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of service at 6:00 with Pastor Derrald Hilderbrand officiating.
