MARATHON — Police suspect a man whose body was discovered in a Marathon motel closet died of a drug overdose, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Autopsy results suggest Brian Kienast died from a combination of controlled substances, authorities say. Kienast’s body was discovered April 19 inside a motel room at the Village Inn in Marathon, more than four months after he was reported missing from his Adams County home.

Police say Kienast was in Marathon City the week of Thanksgiving but are seeking public help in retracing the man’s steps in the weeks and days leading up to his death.

There’s no word on how long Kienast’s body was in the closet or a time frame on when the man died.

According to his Facebook page, Kienast lived in Adams and was a native of Pewaukee. He attended both Jefferson High School and MATC in Fort Atkinson.

Anyone with information about Kienast’s movements between November and April can call Marathon County Crimestoppers at 877-409-8777 or can submit a tip through the website and remain anonymous.
