WAUSAU — The Wausau Metropolitan Planning Organization will host an open house for the Transit Development Plan that was recently adopted by the Wausau Metropolitan Planning Commission.

Area residents are encouraged to attend anytime between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. May 30 at the Marathon County Public Library, second floor meeting room, 300 N. First St. in Wausau. MPO and Metro Ride staff members will be on hand to discuss the transit plan.

The Transit Development Plan is the result of a planning process done every five years for the local public transit provider and guided by federal regulations. The plan evaluates the current system, the need for transit in the wider metro area, makes recommendations and identifies opportunities.

The Metro Area survey was a mailing to 8,463 randomly selected residents in Wausau, Rib Mountain, Schofield, Weston and Rothschild to determine their attitudes on public transit and paratransit services in their communities, according to the Wausau Metropolitan Planning Organization. Overall, 62 percent of respondents feel their community should have transit and 54 percent feel their community should budget for transit in the next few years.

More detail on the plan and survey results will be available at the Open House and in the plan, which is available at: http://www.co.marathon.wi.us/.
