WAUSAU – The Wisconsin Woodchucks have signed three more pitchers and an infielder to the 2018 roster.

Pitchers Drew Holweger from Furman University, Alec Abdalah from Los Angeles Harbor College and Lenny Gwizdala, a returning Woodchuck from Northwoods University have joined the Chucks, along with infielder Alex Toral from the University of Miami.

Holweger, a 6’3” left-handed pitcher, pitched seven innings of relief this spring for Furman with four strikeouts, according to a Woodchucks news release. In 2017, Holweger, originally from Springboro, Ohio, saw limited action with three appearances in relief.

Abdalah, a 6’0” right-handed pitcher from Rancho Palos Verdes, California, pitched 75 innings with 62 strikeouts and a 7-7 record for the Los Angeles Harbor Seahawks, according to the Woodchucks. As a freshman, he posted a 4.29 ERA in 79.2 innings pitched.

Returning Woodchuck Gwizdala, a 5’11” hurler, pitched 43.2 innings of relief, recording 42 strikeouts, two saves, and a 2.26 ERA last season, according to the release. At Northwood University this spring, he spent 45.2 innings on the mound and posted a 3.55 ERA with 13 saves. Gwizdala is originally from Bay City, Michigan.

Toral is a 6’1” power hitter from Davie, Florida. He was a four-year letterwinner in high school where he was selected as a two-time Under-Armour All-American and Perfect Game All-American. Toral was ranked the No. 2 overall prospect among college freshman by Perfect Game and number 199 as an MLB draft-eligible prospect by Baseball America, according to the Woodchucks.
