The Woodchucks earned their first win of the season Wednesday, fueled by outstanding pitching throughout the game.

Woodchucks starter Alec Abdalah pitched a beauty tossing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. It was then on to the relief tandem of Frank Frate and Jake Gross who did the job holding the lead.

Fan favorite lefty hurler Lenny Gwizdala came in for the save and shut the door with three straight punch-outs.

Wausau native Payton Nelson had a great night offensively with two hits and two runs batted in to fuel the team.

The Chucks also played a clean game on defense with no errors committed.

The Woodchucks are back in action on Thursday as they host the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters for the first time this season with the first pitch starting at 6:35 p.m.
