WAUSAU — Wausau Kayak & Canoe Corp. will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, June 8, at 212 River Drive to celebrate completed renovations at Wausau Whitewater Park. Upgrades include new stairways, a section added for disabled canoeists, a walkway on the west side of the river and the connection to the Riverwalk.

The event, which runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., is open to the public with the water ‘on’ for kayakers until 6 p.m. following the ribbon cutting.

“For 44 years the east channel of the Wisconsin River in downtown Wausau has been a place for paddlers to compete, train, play and teach,” said Sasha Frahm, operations coordinator, in a news release. “If you love sports and the outdoors and want to become a part of a great organization, Wausau Whitewater is always looking for volunteers to assist in a variety of areas.”

The Wausau Kayak & Canoe Corp. is the guiding organization for Wausau Whitewater Park. The whitewater course is used for world-class athlete training and competitions, youth and adult kayak lessons, recreational paddling, citizen competitions and swift-water rescue classes for local fire departments.
