WESTON — Two weeks after Weston Administrator Dan Guild was placed on unpaid suspension for breaching his contract in ways officials have yet to specify, village trustees approved hiring an outside attorney to assist in crafting a new employment contract.
Dean Dietrich will represent the village in its apparent conflict with Guild, who has not yet been told what specifically led to the suspension. The village attorney stepped away from the conflict, officials said.
Dietrich, an employment attorney with RuderWare, has represented Marathon County, the town of Rib Mountain, and the city of Wausau in a range of past cases. He is expected to assist Weston in drafting a new employment agreement that Guild will be required to follow or risk termination when he resumes his role on July 9.
Newly elected Trustee Wally Sparks, who along with Mark Maloney called for a closed session meeting in May to discuss Guild’s performance, ran his campaign on a platform of increased transparency for the village. But so far, village officials have failed to fill multiple open records requests from area media including Wausau Pilot and Review related to the issue and have not stated the reasons for Guild’s suspension.
