The Woodchucks came back home Thursday to the friendly confines of Athletic Park to try to break their two game losing streak against the Madison Mallards but fell in a dramatic 9th inning by a score of 3-2.

Scoreless in the bottom of the 3rdinning, Woodchucks first baseman Alex Toral continued his hot hitting at the plate with a deep RBI double to center, to start the scoring. After the Mallards tied things up in the top of the 4th, Chucks left fielder Derek Schwimmer added to the charge in the bottom of the 4thwith an RBI single to give the team a 2-1 lead.

Chucks starting pitcher Brett Wicklund pitched a great ballgame allowing just two runs on five hits keeping the game within reach.

The Woodchucks bullpen continued to stay hot to keep the game tied with a nice inning of scoreless relief from Frank Frate. With the game knotted at 2-2 in the top of the 9th, the Mallards scored the go ahead run on a RBI infield single from David Vinsky and persevered for the win.

Top Performers 

Chucks first baseman Alex Toral has been absolutely scorching at the plate recently and didn’t stop tonight. With three hits including an RBI double, he now has pushed his average to .417

Chucks fielder Derek Schwimmer came up big with a RBI single in the bottom of the 4thand also was walked as he reached base twice.

Woodchuck catcher Issac Quinones had a nice night at the plate going 2-4 with a double.

Chucks reliever Frank Frate did an excellent job in relief going one inning to keep his ERA scoreless in his third appearance.
