WAUSAU — Two sex offenders will be released from prison this month and will be living in Wausau, according to the Wausau Police Department.
Lawrence Tomcek, 54, and Paul Podgorak, 52, will both be monitored by sex offender agent specialists and will be subject to GPS monitoring. Both men will be living in transitional housing near the Marathon County Courthouse and will be on highly restricted schedules with time out in the community for work and treatment, police said.
Tomcek was convicted in 1991 of first degree sexual assault of a child and child exploitation, according to a news release. He has spent the past 27 years in prison and will remain on active supervision for the next 23 years.
Podgorak was convicted in 2002 of second degree sexual assault of a child with a habitual criminality enhancer. He has twice previously been released on extended supervision but was not successful, court records show. In 2010, Podgorak was released from prison but was returned in 2014 when his probation was revoked. The second time Podgorak was released was in May 2016; he was then returned to prison just 15 months later. He will remain on active supervision until March 2024.
