WAUSAU — Eight years after a registered sex offender removed his GPS monitoring bracelet and led police on a days-long manhunt in Marathon County, police say he’s on the run again.
Floyd Romatowski, 60, is a registered sex offender with a lifetime GPS bracelet requirement. He is currently on supervision stemming from a 1998 conviction for second degree sexual assault of a child. Romatowski has prior convictions for first degree sexual assault of a child, failure to register as a sex offender and operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, according to court records. His last known address was in Schofield.
Court documents show Romatowski has been on the run before. In late June 2010, Romatowski was living in a halfway house when he cut off his GPS monitor and vanished. Days later, relatives in Kronenwetter reported Romatowski had appeared at their farm, police said. The relatives urged Romatowski to turn himself in, but he refused and fled before police could arrive. His disappearance sparked a manhunt that lasted for days while Romatowski hid in the woods.
Romatowski was eventually captured and was sent back to prison.
