LINCOLN COUNTY — Two crashes and a boat fire were to blame for holiday traffic delays for travelers heading north on Hwy. 51 this weekend, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

On Hwy. 51, the first crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. Friday when a vehicle struck a semi tractor trailer northbound near CTH V, police said. An hour later, at about 4:35 p.m., a vehicle veered off the roadway and rolled, ejecting the driver in a crash on Hwy. 51 at CTH A.

The driver escaped without suffering major injuries, according to police. Traffic was backed up for about an hour as crews cleared the crash scene.

At 8:30 p.m. traffic was stopped once again after a boat being towed caught fire. Travelers were at a complete standstill for about 30 minutes while crews put out the blaze. Police say there were no injuries in the blaze, and the vehicle towing the boat was not damaged.

Elsewhere in the region, at least one person was injured following a two vehicle crash Friday morning on State Rd 64 at Short Ave in the Town of Pine River. Traffic was backed up for about an hour while the crash scene was cleared. No other details were immediately released.

Traffic is expected to be heavy on Wisconsin highways throughout the week and extending into the weekend.
