July 4 holiday fun around north central Wisconsin

Yes, July 4 is this week! And, no, you haven’t missed all the fireworks and parades. Here’s a list of some of the area events to help supplement your backyard cookouts. Have fun. Be safe.


Athens: Dusk on July 3, Memorial Park, Caroline and Mueller streets

Eagle River: Dusk on July 4 at Vilas County Fairgrounds, 164 Forest St.

Lake Tomahawk: Dusk on July 4, downtown

Merrill: July 3 at The Rock (formerly Rock Island) and at dusk on July 5 (rescheduled from July 4 due to expected inclement weather) at the MARC (Merrill Area Recreation Complex), 1100 Marc Drive

Minocqua: Dusk on July 4 over Minocqua’s blue water tower

Mosinee: Dusk on July 4, River Park, 1101 Main St.

Tomahawk: Dusk on July 4, from Sara Park on West Somo Avenue

Wausau: (1) Dusk on July 4 and July 7, Marathon Park on Stewart Avenue. (2) Wisconsin Woodchucks post-game fireworks on July 4, Athletic Park, 324 E. Wausau Ave.


Lake Tomahawk: July 4 in downtown. Lions parade begins at 2:30 p.m.

Minocqua: July 4 in downtown. Kiddie parade begins at 3:45 p.m.; main parade begins at 4 p.m.

Mosinee: July 4 at River Park; parade lineup begins at 5:30 p.m.; parade starts at 6 p.m. Visit mosineechamber.org for more info.

Stevens Point: July 4 on Main Street. Parade begins at 11 a.m.

Tomahawk: July 4 in downtown; begins at 1 p.m. Water fights to follow at Tomahawk Fire Department.

Fun runs

Firecracker 5K Run/Walk

When: July 4; 8 a.m. registration; 9 a.m. event begins

Where: River Park, Armory Road, Mosinee

Cost: $25

Pow Wow Days 5K/10K

When: July 4; 8:30 a.m. race; a 1-mile fun run also will be held at about 9:30 a.m.

Where: Memorial Park, East River Street, Tomahawk

Cost: Preregistration was held online through July 1; No guaranteed race day registrations.

Wausau Area 4th of July Celebration

When: July 4 – 8

Where: Marathon Park, Stewart Avenue, Wausau

Fireworks: Dusk on July 4 and July 7

Other events: Lawn mower races – 1 p.m. July 4; Boogie & the Yo Yoz performance – 7:30 p.m. July 6; Demo Derby – 1:30 p.m. July 8

Rides and games

$20 wristband days – 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 5; noon to 5 p.m. July 7 and noon to 5 p.m. July 8

Live music at 7:30 in the beer tent
