WAUSAU – The central Wisconsin jazz scene and upcoming summer festivals in Wausau and Stevens Point will be featured on Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 at 10 a.m. July 12.

The program will feature singer Janet Planet, who will be headlining the Sid Kyler River Valley Jazz Festival in Wausau on July 21 and the Riverfront Jazz Festival in Stevens Point on Sept. 2. The program also features festival organizers Tim Buchholz, associate professor of music at University of Wisconsin-Marathon County and representative of the River Valley Jazz Society of Wausau; and Mathew  Buchman, director of jazz studies at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and artistic director of the Riverfront Jazz Festival.

Buchholz has released a new CD of vocal jazz, “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” which features Buchman on piano. Host Glen Moberg will moderate a discussion about the impact of jazz music in central Wisconsin. The program will also feature music selections performed by Planet, Buchholz, Buchman and other artists appearing at the two festivals.

Route 51 airs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursdays on The Ideas Network stations 101.3 & 91.9 Wausau, AM 930 Auburndale/Stevens Point, 99.1 Stevens Point, 100.9 Marshfield, 90.3 Park Falls, 89.1 Adams/Wisconsin Rapids, HD 90.9-3 and 89.9 Rhinelander/Eagle River. The program is re-broadcast at 7 p.m. Fridays on 90.9 Wausau.
