WAUSAU — A Wausau Police officer is one of 16 finalists in a national grant competition that would award funding to benefit a nonprofit organization serving the community.

In a YouTube video, Officer Eric Lemirand talks about how Adaptive Communities Inc. has influenced his life and his sense of service, while members and leaders of the organization talk about the impact Lemirand has made on them personally.

Public voters will chose the final six winners, who will receive a #WhyWeServe grant from Aftermath. If Lemirand is chosen as a winner the grant will be directed to Adaptive Communities Inc., which offers activities and learning experiences for adults with special needs.

Adaptive Communities opened its doors in January in the space formerly occupied by Blockbuster Video on 17th Avenue, with a mission of improving the quality of life for its members. Police play an integral role in the services Adaptive Communities provides through positive interaction with the agencies members, many of whom have developed a close relationship with Lemirand.
