MERRILL — The deadline for paying the final installment of 2017 property taxes is July 31.

The Lincoln County treasurer encourages mailing your tax payment and not waiting until the last week of July. Mailing your payment early helps ensure the USPS postmark is timely and provides a greater opportunity to correct errors before the deadline. Note: A postmark is proof of a timely payment.

“The cost of missing the final tax installment deadline is severe,” according to the Lincoln County treasurer. Under state law, interest and penalty charges are 1.5 percent unpaid principal per month back to February 1 (10.5 percent in August for 2017 taxes).”

Include your payment coupons or PIN numbers with payment, if this is relevant to you. Also, send a self-address stamped envelope for a return receipt. Mail to: Lincoln County Treasurer, 801 N. Sales St., Suite 204, Merrill, WI 54452-1632.

There also is a drop box near the north entrance of the Lincoln County Service Center, 801 N. Sales St., Merrill. Office hours are 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Mondays – Fridays.
