WESTON — Days after Weston Administrator Daniel Guild returned to work following an unpaid suspension, the board of trustees is considering a proposed severance agreement that would effectively end Guild’s employment with the village.
A special meeting of the board of trustees is set for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 17. A public agenda shows the meeting will include a discussion and possible action “regarding approval of severance agreement with current village administrator.”
Guild was suspended May 24 without pay for breaching the terms of his employment agreement and returned to work last week. He released a statement July 12 to Wausau Pilot and Review pledging to move forward in cooperation with the board of trustees to better serve the community.
Following his suspension, Guild hired attorney Kevin St. John of Bell Giftos St. John LLC to represent him in matters relating to his employment with the village. In a letter to Dean Dietrich, an employment attorney with Ruder Ware who has been retained by the village to handle the conflict, St. John called Guild’s suspension an “unnecessary disruption” that violated the administrator’s rights.
Documents obtained by Wausau Pilot and Review outline an apparent ongoing conflict between Guild and former Everest Metro Police Chief Wally Sparks. Sparks, who retired in late February and was elected in April to the Weston Board of Trustees, is one of two board members who called for the May closed session meeting that resulted in Guild’s suspension.
Wausau Pilot and Review has reached out to both Guild and Dean Dietrich, an outside attorney hired by the village to handle the conflict, for comment. This is a breaking story and will be updated.
