RIB MOUNTAIN — The Wausau American Little League minor league team is one of six teams vying for a state title this week in Rib Mountain.

“Wausau has not hosted a tournament of this magnitude in over a decade so it’s a pretty big deal locally,” said Wausau American Coach Dan Graveen.

Ballplayers ages 8-10 from around the state are attending the tournament, which starts today, July 28 and runs through Friday, Aug. 3 at Doepke Recreational Area. The park is located at 2200 S. Mountain Road.

Teams from Elmbrook, Appleton, Eau Claire, Beaver Dam and Kenosha are joining Wausau in their quest for a state championship.

Opening ceremonies were held Saturday morning with the first game at noon and the second game at 2:30 p.m. The Wausau team plays at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Wausau plays each team for a total of five games in five days, with the top four finishers playing in semifinal action on day six. The winners will go on to face off on Friday, Aug. 3, when a state champion will be crowned.
